Set in 1806 the films tells the story of a lost French soldier, Andre Duvalier, searching for his regiment. However, he is misguided when he asks a young woman for directions and she ignores him, disappearing into the water. He sees the young woman a few times but nobody else does, he sets about finding who this mysterious women really is. He’s search leads him to Baron Van Leppe, a man reluctant to help but eventually shows Andre a painting of the woman he has described. Andre learns the woman’s name is Ilsa, and she was caught by the Barron sleeping with another man named Eric and in his rage he killed the both of them ... but is the Barron telling the whole truth?
